Fretboard Lab Changelog

This is the changelog for Fretboard Lab. Our development philosophy is simple: we ship desktop software that solves a specific problem reliably.

We release new features when the industry outgrows the current workflow. We ship fixes when we break something. We adapt when the underlying platform changes, such as a new network stack, OS security policy, or protocol specification. This page documents those improvements, fixes, and adaptations.

We try to avoid pushing updates just to bump the version number. If the build you are using is stable and the changelog does not mention a fix or feature you care about, it is safe to skip the release.

The entries here prioritize changes that affect real use: installers, license activation, import and export behavior, offline work, report handoff, data-format compatibility, performance, and error handling.

If you are deciding whether to upgrade, start with the items that match your workflow and then install the newer build when the fix or feature matters.   1. 0.1.9 — 2026-07-27

    • Microsoft Store offer discovery now distinguishes retryable query failures from authoritative unavailable results, so a transient refresh no longer discards a previously confirmed offer while chord voicings, fretboard positions, and alternate-tuning work remain available.
    • Purchase and restore now share one refresh path, preventing overlapping license-panel checks from hiding the purchase action; purchase still requires a confirmed live Store offer, and the refreshed entitlement governs PNG, PDF, Markdown, and JSON exports plus Fretboard Lab project save/open.

  2. 0.1.8 — 2026-07-26

    • The installed application imports a scoped QA license for export, generates an exact F-major barre voicing through the Community Edition workflow, and retains the resulting chord evidence.
    • Acceptance also verifies a real Markdown export from that fretboard result, without changing chord, tuning, or playability algorithms.

  3. 0.1.7 — 2026-07-22

    • Direct installer builds keep website checkout, license-key import, and online activation; Store builds hide web checkout and use native purchase and account restore.
    • A native Store purchase offer is exposed only when its add-on is explicitly marked as published; unpublished add-ons remain restorable for existing owners but cannot start a new purchase.
    • After a successful native purchase, the desktop runtime refreshes the Store entitlement and returns the updated license state. This code path has not yet completed real-account Store transaction acceptance.

  4. 0.1.6 — 2026-07-17

    • Replaced browser oscillator playback with the native audio-core Karplus-Strong pluck engine for chord strums, arpeggios, and progression practice.
    • Progression playback now runs as a device-rate-aware backend sequence with loop control, live tempo changes, stop and seek state, and step highlighting driven by engine telemetry.
    • Tuning-to-pitch mapping now comes from the shared guitar core, while muted strings, playable fret bounds, and malformed progression requests are validated before playback.
    • The borderless desktop window is natively resizable, and entitlement restoration refreshes the unlocked state immediately.

  5. 0.1.5 — 2026-07-10

    • Refined the desktop interface for a clearer, more consistent workflow.
    • Fixed reliability and usability issues across everyday work.

  6. 0.1.4 — June 25, 2026

    • Added Harmony Guide interactive tool to assist in exploring scale degree chords and chord progressions.
    • Added Chord Variants component to display and switch between alternative chord shape configurations easily.
    • Improved Fretboard SVG diagram rendering with cleaner layouts, precise finger placements, and enhanced tuning visualizations.
    • Refined voicing scoring algorithm heuristics for more accurate playability evaluation.
    • General stability improvements, bug fixes, and Svelte 5/Tauri 2 integration updates.

  7. 0.1.0 — June 12, 2026

    • First beta release of the offline chord voicing and fretboard diagram workbench.
    • Added chord input, tuning selection, playable voicing sorting, and export-oriented diagram preview output.
