Practice Rack Changelog

This is the changelog for Practice Rack. Our development philosophy is simple: we ship desktop software that solves a specific problem reliably.

We release new features when the industry outgrows the current workflow. We ship fixes when we break something. We adapt when the underlying platform changes, such as a new network stack, OS security policy, or protocol specification. This page documents those improvements, fixes, and adaptations.

We try to avoid pushing updates just to bump the version number. If the build you are using is stable and the changelog does not mention a fix or feature you care about, it is safe to skip the release.

The entries here prioritize changes that affect real use: installers, license activation, import and export behavior, offline work, report handoff, data-format compatibility, performance, and error handling.

If you are deciding whether to upgrade, start with the items that match your workflow and then install the newer build when the fix or feature matters. If you hit a regression, contact support with the current version, target version, operating system, and reproduction steps. To get the latest build, visit the download entry.

  1. 0.1.10 — 2026-07-27

    • Microsoft Store offer discovery now distinguishes retryable query failures from authoritative unavailable results, so a transient refresh no longer discards a previously confirmed offer while the local DSP effects chain and cabinet IR convolution remain available.
    • Purchase and restore now share one refresh path, preventing overlapping license-panel checks from hiding the purchase action; purchase still requires a confirmed live Store offer, while the tuner, looper, WAV recorder, and rack presets remain together on the same local practice surface.
  2. 0.1.9 — 2026-07-26

    • Overdubbing no longer halves existing loop material on each pass; summed peaks use the existing soft clamp instead of repeatedly attenuating prior layers.
    • The installed executable exposes a bounded offline DSP smoke report covering the effect chain and looper path before release evidence is accepted.
  3. 0.1.8 — 2026-07-22

    • Direct installer builds keep website checkout, license-key import, and online activation; Store builds hide web checkout and use native purchase and account restore.
    • A native Store purchase offer is exposed only when its add-on is explicitly marked as published; unpublished add-ons remain restorable for existing owners but cannot start a new purchase.
    • After a successful native purchase, the desktop runtime refreshes the Store entitlement and returns the updated license state. This code path has not yet completed real-account Store transaction acceptance.
  4. 0.1.7 — 2026-07-17

    • The borderless rack window is now natively resizable while preserving the supported minimum workspace geometry.
    • Entitlement restoration now refreshes the unlocked state immediately, with store builds exposing only the platform-native licensing path.
    • Hardened macOS store packaging with the product microphone purpose string, Music category, minimum-system target, and sandbox metadata.
    • Corrected optional-feature copy: the free Community Edition keeps the complete effects rack, while the licensed boundary is limited to saved-preset capacity and the registered sync integration.
  5. 0.1.6 — 2026-07-10

    • Refined the desktop interface for a clearer, more consistent workflow.
    • Fixed reliability and usability issues across everyday work.
  6. 0.1.5 - Motorized fader, pitch shift and phaser, loudness-matched presets

    • Boost redesigned as a long-throw motorized console fader with a dB scale, unity notch, and post-fader LED peak meter.
    • Two new effects — Pitch Shift (±12 semitones with dry blend) and Phaser (4-12 stage all-pass sweep) — grow the rack to 16 modules.
    • Reverb can now freeze a tail open indefinitely; size range extended to a near-infinite wash.
    • All eight factory presets re-leveled to within ±3 dB of each other, so switching presets no longer jumps in volume.
    • Removed in-rack dropdown selects in favor of segmented hardware-style mode keys and steppers.
  7. 0.1.4 - Ground-up UX rebuild and DSP overhaul

    • Rebuilt the interface around a fixed effects rack with animated per-effect screens, a Guitar Rig-style signal-flow rail, and an OP-1 Field-inspired look.
    • Licensing simplified: moved from per-effect gating to preset slots. Every effect is free; saving user presets beyond 3 requires a Professional license. The licensed boundary also retains the registered playback-position sync backend command, which the current UI does not invoke.
    • New shared DSP engine: real Neural Amp and Pedal Capture circuit models, true-stereo reverb, zero-latency cabinet IR convolution, oversampled drive stages, and full parameter smoothing.
    • Fixed pitch drift and crackling during cross-device monitoring, and corrected a cabinet IR gain-staging bug that could blow out the signal.
    • Full 11-locale translation of every new interface string.
  8. 0.1.3 - Version alignment

    • Version bump alongside the wider product line release.
  9. 0.1.2 - Version alignment

    • Version bump alongside the wider product line release.
  10. 0.1.1 - Pedalboard workflow polish

    • Reworked the rack into a drag-in pedalboard matrix with catalog preview before adding effects.
    • Added refined SVG effect visualizers, stable resize-safe pointer mapping, direct parameter reset gestures, and capped full-screen visualizer sizing.
    • Upgraded EQ from a simple 3-band block to an 8-band musical EQ with a smooth response curve and refined drag targets.
    • Updated the license boundary so Community keeps the core board while Professional and Team unlock the full effects catalog.
    • Added compact recorder placement, looper-in-chain workflow, global BPM time controls, and refreshed product screenshots.
  11. 0.1.0 - Initial beta release

    • First beta release of the offline guitar practice effects rack, tuner, looper, and recorder.
    • Added the initial pedalboard-style chain with practice presets and local recording workflow.

Release context

How to read Practice Rack release notes

Practice Rack puts low-latency input, all 16 effects, Cabinet IR with custom WAV loading, tuner, looper, recorder, manual or tap tempo, and three saved user presets into the free Community Edition. Optional licensing removes the preset limit and covers a registered playback-position sync backend command that the current UI does not invoke.

Use this page to decide whether a release changes the exact workflow you rely on. Installer fixes, activation fixes, export behavior, local file compatibility, and evidence/report output matter more than a version number by itself.

  • Workflow areas to watch

    • Low-latency input monitoringConnect your guitar through an audio interface, choose a small buffer, and keep the monitoring path focused for real-time practice.
    • Sixteen-effect signal chainDrag any of the 16 effects into the chain, load a built-in or custom WAV Cabinet IR, reorder blocks, bypass without losing edits, and save the rack as a preset. Every effect is included in the free Community Edition.
    • Looper, recorder, and tunerRecord and overdub loops, capture practice takes to WAV, and tune up with a fast FFT-based chromatic tuner that shows note, cents, and frequency.
  • Upgrade decision

Practice Rack updates should be evaluated against the local tasks the product is meant to protect. If your current build is stable, upgrade when the notes mention a feature, platform fix, or defect that affects your work.

    • All 16 effects, including Cabinet IR and custom WAV IR loading
    • Looper, recorder, and tuner
    • Manual and tap tempo
