PCAP Surgery Changelog
This is the changelog for PCAP Surgery. Our development philosophy is simple: we ship desktop software that solves a specific problem reliably.
We release new features when the industry outgrows the current workflow. We ship fixes when we break something. We adapt when the underlying platform changes, such as a new network stack, OS security policy, or protocol specification. This page documents those improvements, fixes, and adaptations.
We try to avoid pushing updates just to bump the version number. If the build you are using is stable and the changelog does not mention a fix or feature you care about, it is safe to skip the release.
The entries here prioritize changes that affect real use: installers, license activation, import and export behavior, offline work, report handoff, data-format compatibility, performance, and error handling.
If you are deciding whether to upgrade, start with the items that match your workflow and then install the newer build when the fix or feature matters. - Added scope-aware export preflight that computes packet writes, drops, duplicates, byte estimates, edits, supported checksum repairs, and warnings through the same walker used to materialize the artifact.
- Added a bounded privacy-exposure inventory for visible IP and MAC identifiers, DNS names, HTTP Host values, TLS SNI, printable payload, and decoder-coverage gaps.
- Artifact Review PDFs now bind the selected export scope to its preflight, privacy inventory, warnings, source context, and packet sample, while preventing accidental overwrite of the source capture.
- Rule rebuilds are now atomic and isolated from manual packet marks, byte overrides, ordering, and time-workshop edits.

- The workbench Settings dialog now exposes English and Chinese language choices. Only fully translated language options are shown in Settings.
- Opening large capture files is significantly faster and uses less memory.
- The interface now uses a consistent font scale—text in the left and right panels is properly balanced and easier to read.
- Button colors adapt correctly to the light theme instead of staying dark.
- General interface polish: improved layout, clearer click targets, and smoother spacing throughout.

Isolate the flow that matters, preview controlled changes, and export a minimal repro or regression fixture without overwriting the source capture.
Use this page to decide whether a release changes the exact workflow you rely on. Installer fixes, activation fixes, export behavior, local file compatibility, and evidence/report output matter more than a version number by itself.

Workflow areas to watch
- PCAP and basic PCAPNG import. Open classic PCAP and basic single-interface Ethernet PCAPNG, then index packet metadata without uploading capture content.
- Packet timeline and filters. Filter by protocol, endpoint, direction, packet number, time range, and text while preserving a dense packet table.
- Decoded packet detail. Inspect Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, ICMP, ARP, payload bytes, offsets, and copyable evidence for the selected packet.

Upgrade decision
PCAP Surgery updates should be evaluated against the local tasks the product is meant to protect. If your current build is stable, upgrade when the notes mention a feature, platform fix, or defect that affects your work.
