Common Backbeat Forge questions

What can Backbeat Forge import?

A local full mix or isolated drum stem in WAV, MP3, FLAC, OGG, M4A, or AAC, plus percussion MIDI in .mid or .midi. Full mixes can use local separation; drum stems go directly to onset analysis; MIDI enters the same score editor.

Does a full mix use drum separation?

Yes when the local HTDemucs model is available. Drum stems bypass separation and go directly to onset analysis.

Can I edit the generated drum score?

Yes. The editor supports adding, deleting, selecting, moving, quantizing, changing kit pieces, velocity, and articulation.

What does Backbeat Forge export?

A printable multi-page PDF drum score and General MIDI percussion on channel 10.

What is included in Community and Professional?

Community includes drum detection and five-line score viewing. The $19 lifetime Professional license includes one machine-bound activation for one user and adds editing, quantization, PDF export, MIDI export, and offline updates.

What is the Team license?

The $49 Team license includes every Professional feature for three machine-bound seats under one billing email. It is a one-time website-direct purchase, not a subscription.

How can I balance the separated stems during playback?

The floating stem mixer keeps the real drums, bass, vocals, and other stems available after separation, with master gain plus per-stem volume, mute, and solo controls that update during playback.

Does the score's Light or Dark appearance follow the application theme?

Yes. The five-line drum score uses the application's current Light or Dark theme, and changing the application theme updates the score surface as well.

Does Backbeat Forge upload my recording?

No. The normal audio decode, bundled HTDemucs separation, onset detection, playback, and project workflow runs locally on the desktop.

What does a .bforge project save?

It saves the editable score, source fingerprint, analysis settings, mixer controls, and workspace state so the reviewed draft can be reopened without running transcription again.

What happens if the source audio moved or changed?

The saved score still opens. Backbeat Forge warns when the source is missing and refuses to attach a changed file silently when its fingerprint no longer matches.

Does Backbeat Forge export MusicXML?

MusicXML is not currently advertised. Use PDF for printable five-line notation and General MIDI channel 10 for percussion-event interchange.
